Welcome
to Veggie World.
The
following are some popular myths on vegetarianism.
Please keep in mind that I am not a medical
professional. If you feel I've said anything
in error, please email me. Alot of this stuff
is up for debate, this is just what I have found
in my own research and talking with people who
are nutritional experts.
Myth
#1: You won't get enough protein unless you eat
meat.
This
is just not true. Most people in developed countries
get far more protein than they need. Especially
if they eat a meat based diet. Excessive protein
can be linked to kidney stones, osteoporosis and
even indigestion. If you eat a wide variety of fruits,
vegetables, grains and legumes, dairy or soy products
you won't have any trouble getting all the protein
you need. I think that it's pretty well accpeted
among the general population that protein is not
an issue.
Myth
#2: The human body was not meant to eat meat.
I've
gone through a brain transplant since writing this
page the last time. This is not a myth. Humans were
*NOT* meant to eat meat. Meat is just not good for
you. Eating alot of meat causes early puberty in
humans and increases estrogen levels, which increases
your chance of cancer. I will change my myths page
and take this myth out entirely. I'm going to add
a new page dedicated to a discussion of the bad
health effects that meat can have on a person.
Myth
3: You won't get complete amino acids if you eat
a vegetarian diet.
This
is untrue. As with any healthy diet, a vegetarian
should be eating a wide variety of plant based foods.
