CHORAL CONCERT

Bangalore Society of Performing Arts presents Madrigals, Etc.
and The Camerata who will perform choral and instrumental works
from Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Morley, Carlo Gesualdo and Samuel
Barber among others. The instrumental session will include
recorder trios and lute & voice duets. Madrigals, Etc., a
renaissance choral and instrumental ensemble performs music that
calls for a solo voice to a part in keeping with renaissance
traditions. The Camerata, where all the singers have either
degrees in music or extensive singing experience with some of the
best choirs in the city, was formed especially for the historical
performance of Handel's Messiah in 2001. Both choirs are directed

OPERATION FRENCH NIGHTINGALE

Alliance Française de Bangalore and the Embassy of France in India
will be organising the singing competition in French - 'Operation
French Nightingale' in September 2002. The competition is open to
all between the ages of 16 to 25 years, who can sing in French and
of any nationality except French. The winner of this competition
shall represent Bangalore at the national level competition. The
five national winners shall win a one month free stay in France
offered by the Embassy of France in India. Those interested may

MOIS DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE
CELEBRATING THE DIVINE IN EXALTED BODIES

Alliance Française de Bangalore and the Embassy of France of India
present an exhibition of photographs by Mireille-Joséphine
Guézennec. A Ph.D. holder in Indian Philosophy and Vedic
Astrology, she has travelled extensively in India for over a
decade, in which time she was able to meet and photograph eminent
Indian dancers. She has exhibited numerous times in France and has
been awarded the prestigious 'Kodak Prix Grand Reportage'. This
exhibition shall consist of an exquisite selection of her
photographs, for the first time in India, as a tribute to all
Indian classical dance forms both artistically and spiritually.
URBAN LANDSCAPES - PAYSAGES URBAINS

Alliance Française de Bangalore and the Embassy of France in India
present an exhibition of photographs by David Giancatarina, for
the first time in India. The exhibition consists of an elucidative
collection of his photographs, based on his photographic study of
cities in India and France. Winner of the prestigious 'Kodak Prix
Grand Reportage', he has exhibited his urban images of Japan and
Egypt globally. The cities featured in the photographs are Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolkata, Panaji, Chennai & Benares from India and Avignon
& Marseilles from France.
PROGRAMME KEO
PROGRAMME KEO - 11th, to 13th Sept. '02
A universal project that is symbolic in its fusion of art,
technology, humanism and dreams.
KEO is a winged satellite that will be launched into space at the
end of 2003 and will return to Earth after 50,000 years. It will
carry with it precious gifts destined for our future generations
and including a fresco of messages from all mankind. KEO invites
every individual on this Earth to participate in its unique
adventure. Each habitant of our planet is provided with four pages
to write his message. All these messages will be engraved on
specially designed glass disks and put aboard the satellite.
KEO appeals to India to share her country's cultural heritage with
the people of today and to hand over her symbolic legacy to the
people of tomorrow so that the entire human community can be a
part of the Indian traditions and rituals. Team KEO will be in
Bangalore on the above dates and will be giving presentations at
various venues. There will be a press conference at AFB on Thu,
12th September and all interested and most welcome to attend the
presentation.

Workshop: DISCOVERY OF CINEMA

Alliance Française de Bangalore will be conducting a film
appreciation workshop 'Narrative Cinema & Construction of Meaning:
Basic Film Study'. Spread over 4 days on 2 consecutive weekends,
the workshop will look into Hollywood Cinema, European Art Cinema,
Construction on Meaning, Understanding Cinema, Hindi Popular
Cinema etc. Film screenings on all days will be followed by
interactive discussions. Mr.M.K.Raghavendra, noted film critic,
will be conducting the workshop. The course fee is Rs.600/- for
all 4 days, including tea and lunch. Those interested may register
at AFB. Registrations limited to 25 people only.

STILL WATERS DOUBLE BILL

The theatre group Still Waters presents a special double bill
production with the plays 'Scars In My Memory' and 'Shadows On The
Wall', written and directed by Vijjay Nair. 'Scars in my memory'
deals with six men who get lost on a trek and are forced to spend
the night in a desolate spot where they are forced to come to
terms with their own private problems. Alternating between comic
and sombre veins, the play won critical acclaim when it was first
staged in August 2001. 'Shadows On The Wall' revolves around a
writer being interviewed after winning a literary prize, where she
sees her life unfold before her eyes and shadows from the past
tell their own story. The play is about the strength and
resilience with which women fight back to carve their own unique
identity in any culture. Tickets Rs.100/- (50 discount for
students) at Café de Paris, AFB, Supermarket & Java City. Event

IONESCAPES

Venue: Auditorium, Alliance Française de Bangalore
Kathakar, the theatre club of AFB presents IONESCAPES, an
evening of drama to commemorate the life and work of Eugene
Ionesco, one of the greatest playwrights of France, who was also
at the vanguard of the Theatre of the Absurd. The performance will
include scenes from some of Ionesco's best known plays: The
Lesson, The Bald Soprano, Rhinoceros, Amedee, followed by the
short play The Leader in full. This production is the culmination
of the summer workshop SPOT-2002, organized by Kathakar and
Bangalore Little Theatre.
