brought to our notice by concerned members of the public who were instrumental in the unveiling of rampant illegal trade of exotic
animals and birds in Bangalore and surrounding districts. Many animals were also rescued from city parks and urban wooded areas, often wounded and hurt. Such rescues have given birth to the sister concern of CUPA -
Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre.
In Recognition of our work in this field, the Dept. of Forests & Environment, Karnataka has granted CUPA a permit to rescue and rehabilitate these wild animals and
reptiles. With assistance from the forest Dept., we have been able to save a large number of them.
Emergency calls relate to a wide variety of snakes. With the burgeoning urbanisation of Bangalore city, these
innocent reptiles find themselves in the wrong place and need immediate rescuing against the possibility of being slaughtered by a hostile crowd.
This is when the WRRC Steps in................ Presently, we
are in the possession of a King Cobra, which along with the Tiger, ranks as one of the most threatened animals in India today. A delightful Otter cub rescued from a dynamited river together with a myriad of other
birds, reptiles and small mammals are sheltered in this unit.
Saleem Hamid and his team of committed volunteers have made this project possible with their knowledge and adeptness in handling these creatures. With
Limited funds but plenty of commitment and dedication among our enthusiastic volunteers, WRRC has been able to take in species that are rare, exotic and in need of specialised care. |

There's Always Room For One More
I see by his coat he must be a stray, The untidy look that gives him away. He's lost his will and is so thin, He hasn't eaten since God knows when.
I know as I coax him through the door, There's always room for one more.
The other night in the freezing rain, The little female came up again. Matted and soaked crying in need,
Lost and alone with babies to feed. Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore, There's always room for one more.
There's a new face on the block today, Hungry & unclean to our dismay.
I stroked her head & her body rippled, When she got up I saw she was crippled. She started to go but fell on the floor, There's always room for one more.
There's a poor dog standing in the rain, I have tried to entice him time and again. One ear's lopsided & the other's been torn Blind in one eye, lost and forlorn.
He's coming in now so I'll open the door There's always room for one more.
