The Indian Maharajas used to have some interesting preferences and prejudices projected to their railway systems. The Maharaja of Patiala, maharaja of Mysore, Nizam of Hyderabad, Sindias of Gwalior, and many more like them had trains with private saloons. These trains had intricate bronze railings on the verandahs, wall-to-wall carpeting, four-poster beds with an eight-inch mattress, velvet upholstered chairs, folding tables and much more.
