Alliance Française de Bangalore and the Embassy of France in India
present Autour du Monde, un autre voyage (Around the World), an
exhibition which brings together 32 contemporary black & white
photographs by photographers from around the world. One picture,
one photograph, one country - the photographs, take us in a world
tour as each photograph represents a different country. An
expression of the diversity among the countries of the world, this
exhibition clearly outlines the richness of the photographic
variations: witnesses, reports, auteur photography. The exhibition
is touring in Asia in all the French Cultural Centres and includes
photographs by E.Boubat, I.Muñoz and W.Rouis.

Conte de Printemps by Eric Rohmer
Date: Wed. 13th Nov. '02
In the absence of her friend, Jeanne makes a friend whose father
is very attractive and whose girlfriend hates his daughter. This
comedy talks about love in a comic semi-serious light with
Rohmer's acid charm. The film stars Anne Teyssèdre, Hughes Quester,
Florence Darel and Eloïse Bennett.
La Belle Noiseuse by Jacques Rivette

A great painter has stopped painting since ten years and has left
a painting incomplete whose model was his wife: la belle noiseuse.
A young artist visits the great master accompanied by a beautiful
woman. This woman will now be the new model and the artist paints
her fascinated, shy and almost sadistic. This drama, based on a
short-story by Balzac, has Michel Piccoli, Emmanuelle Béart, Jane
Berkin, David Bursztein in the cast.

THUMRI LECTURE AND RECITAL

Sanskriti presents a Thumri Lecture & Recital by Vidya Rao. Vidya
Rao is currently learning from Shanti Hiranand. She was a disciple
of Naina Devi and has trained in the Khayal style from
Sangameshwar Gudur, B.N. Datta and Pandit Mani Prasad. Vidya's
thumris have delighted audiences in India and abroad. She has
composed and sung for theatre, dance and documentary films
including the BBC and London's Royal National Theater. Thumri is
one of the fascinating forms of Hindustani classical music, marked
by its fluid structures, filigrees, nuances and pure lyricism. In
her lecture Vidya Rao will look into the musical traditions from
which Thumri has drawn, like sufi, folk songs and Vaishnav
padavali. She will explore and demonstrate special characteristics
of Thumri. This will be followed by a recital. For details

Bangalore Society of Performing Arts presents
The Bangalore Society for Performing Arts (BSPA) will be
organizing its fourth concert in the Young Performers Series
featuring two brilliant 16 - year olds from Goa on violin and
voice, accompanied by Margarida Miranda (head of the Western Music
Section at the Kala Academy). Joanne Marie D'Mello has been
training in voice under Juliana de Sa and is maturing into a
mezzo-soprano with a vocal range of over two octaves. . She has
many awards to her credit including the Exhibition Award for
scoring the highest marks in India, Voice of the year 2000 at the
Kala Academy, the Pedro Fernandez Prize for voice of the year, the
Christina D'Souza Koch prize for outstanding student of the year
2001 among others. Sanya Myla Cotta was born in Hamburg, Germany
and is now a student at Padmashri Vasant Rao Dempo Higher
Secondary School of arts and science. She was the first violinist
in the youth and the children's orchestra there. From June 1998
till date, she is now training under Ms. Myra Shroff and received
her Performer's certificate from Trinity College, London.
Margarida Miranda was born in Goa where she had her first piano
lessons at the age of eight. In 1997, she was appointed the
Director of the Western Music Department at the Kala academy in
Panjim. Since then, she has been very active as a teacher and in
the field of chamber music. Donor passes at Rs 100/- and Rs
50/-will be available at the venue and at Supermarket (Brigade

PIANO RECITAL

Bangalore School of Music presents a piano recital by Neville Z.
Bharucha. Nine -going - on ten, he he exhibited a strong
inclination towards the piano at age 3. Lessons began with his
father as most teachers declined to teach him due to his tender
age. Progress was rapid as was his remarkable ability for
improvisation & soon he was composing an array of original pieces.
He is blessed with the gift of perfect pitch and is also learning
the recorder at the Music School. Apart from teachers & musicians
in Bangalore, Neville has played for the visiting Delegation from
the Royal College of Music Stockholm, Concert pianists Christina
Zulauf (Switzerland)', Schmidt Christian (Austria) Andreas Kern
(Germany) among others, all have described him as being
'exceptionally gifted'. The young pianist, along with his sister
Navaz, has given numerous private recitals. He has won innumerable
prizes in music and been featured on star TV, ETV and in leading
dailies including 'Parsiana'. He excels in academics and interests
include astronomy, swimming and of course, listening to his

THEATRE
HAVALDAR BAHADUR SINGH

Karwah, a hindi theatre troupe, presents its first comedy play
Hawaldar Bahadur Singh. The pivot around which the story revolves
is that of the parasite systemic defect in our country, which we
actually live and grow with but can do very little about it. This
satire tells us how hollow the very system is and how the keepers
of the law break it themselves. The play is produced and directed
by Sai Kabir. Entry free.
THESPO 2002

Harlequin Entertainment presents Thespo 2002, the Youth Theatre
Festival, born by the coming together of Mumbai's senior most
theatre company (Theatre Group Bombay) and its youngest troupe (Q
Theatre Productions). Thespo aims to promote and recognise young
talent, to create awareness about theatre among the youth and to
provide a professional simulation of what big-time theatre is all
about. Harlequin Entertainment consisting of Shiva Subramaniam &
Vivek Madan, both known faces in Bangalore's theatre circles
formed the Bangalore Chapter of the festival in June 2001. Tickets

Rd. Student tickets: Rs.40/-, available at the venue on the days
of the shows for students with valid ids.
IONESCAPES

Venue: Auditorium, Alliance Française de Bangalore
Kathakar, the theatre club of Alliance Française de Bangalore,
presents more shows of Ionescapes by popular demand since the
first two shows were House Full and a large number had to go back
disappointed. The show will be featuring the life and work of
Eugene Ionesco, one of France's greatest playwrights. Tickets will
be available at Café de Paris, AFB from 18th Nov. onwards.
