While Bangalore partied on Sunday
night, 28 young persons saw their dream come alive on a ramp.
These young men and women of the National Institute of Fashion
Technology, Bangalore, presented their Graduation Collections in a
glittering fashion show on the 23rd of November 2003 at the Taj
Residency. The event, sponsored by Eros Jewelry, brought to life
some of the most creative works of fashion ever seen on the Indian
catwalk. The students of FDIT (Fashion Design and Information
Technology) not only excelled in innovation but also in the fact
that not a single idea was repeated in the whole show as the
Collections covered a wide plethora of subjects. While Ghopal
Krishnan presented garments made of metal, welded, molded and
plated, Rajendra Verma created delicate wizardry of Origami by
clever pleating. Mohini Priya produced a Collection for the
visually impaired with embossed Braille prints and Shivali Misra
developed eveningwear for pregnant women in specially treated
fabrics. Bhairvin Varma recreated the Lucknawi magic for young
men. Monica Gupta teased the fabric to bring a flavor of Wabi, tea
ceremony going the Zen way; Debasis Mandal let the mind take over
to bring to the ramp garments that doubled as other products.
Sudhargi Bhasker wove his own spell of textiles that shattered the
conventional idea and Siddharth Patil took us on a journey of
self-exploration through a collection that evoked introspection.
Mani Shankar used Fashion as a medium of advertising by making a
statement on Anti-Smoking; Himanshu Bhargava imported special
textiles to cool mineworkers. This talented bunch of students
belonging to different parts of the country from Jammu to Bihar
and Rajasthan to Kerala, have broken not only boundaries of
language but also of the norm of accepting mediocrity and the
conventional.
