My dear Friends,
Greetings and good wishes to
you and the family. I hope all is well. In my capacity as Chairperson of Project Hasina I write this letter, and would earnestly request that you give the matter serious thought on humanitarian grounds.
Beautiful are those days of youth as they are filled with ambition, hope and dreams. Today, stalking has become a major social problem that is haunting our society. Disaster strikes from nowhere and leaves behind pain,
agony, suffering and shattered dreams.
HASINA is one such victim of
stalking on 20th April 1999.
To start - 20 years old
Hasina was studying IInd year B.Com at Open University and was ambitious to chalk out a career for herself. Based on the classifieds in Deccan Herald she attended an interview at 'Neta Computers', Jalahalli run by
Joseph Rodriques a Corporal in the Indian Air Force. Due to mismanagement he underwent a loss and closed down his business. Later Hasina went to work at Satish Enterprises as a computer operator. Rodriques was
obsessed and became maniacally angry.
On 20th April 1999, Hasina as
usual was on her way to work at Satish Enterprises, when Rodriques stopped her. He told her, "Inspite of warning you not to work elsewhere, you are not listening to me, and that the computer you saw in my company
should be the last one you ever see", and with these words, he coldly poured 1 litre of concentrated sulphuric acid on her face. As Hasina stumbled and fell, Rodriques had ample time to pour the acid all over her
body.
Such a heinous crime just to spite her! As Hasina suffers and
fights for her life with grit and determination to live and work on computers again, Rodriques stays safe in defense custody and will be released eventually. In the meantime, Hasina has undergone a number of plastic
surgery operations and is yet to undergo nose, lips and ear grafting, as these have disintegrated and fallen off. Hasina is presently being treated in St. John's Hospital.
At the end of February 2000, Hasina underwent yet another operation when her neck, shoulders and hand muscles
were released. She was discharged from hospital on 20th March 2000. A major operation will be the one on her eyes, and the hospital has said that Dr. Indu Singh of Daljit Singh Eye Hospital, Amritsar is the only
specialist in chemical burns eye operations.
Hasina cannot travel,
so how do we bring the doctor to Bangalore? We need huge funds for the rehabilitation of Hasina who has gone through and is still going through a tremendous amount of suffering.
Is it fair that this young person should suffer for no fault of her's? Can you imagine the trauma and situation of her mother, father and younger sister?
Look at the picture with compassion please. With this in mind, the young Rotaractors of Rotaract Club of
Jalahalli have taken the initiative to raise funds for PROJECT HASINA.
I feel proud to be the Chairperson of the Core Committee.
May I very earnestly request you to please help us by contributing very liberally towards PROJECT HASINA? And thus help this young woman be rehabilitated so that she can live and
work a normal life. I know you will not hesitate to come forward with a substantial amount.
Your cheque or DD may please be made out in the name of: Rotaract Jalahalli Project Hasina SB A/c No.9412 Dena Bank, Peenya Industrial Estate Br.
