Occasions and Festivals in Banglore

The Lalbagh Show:
Vegetable, fruit and flower show is held in Lalbagh on January26th and August 15th every year by the Mysore Horticultural Society. Prizes are distributed for the best exhibits.

A form of Shakti worship, comes off usually in March/April every year. The Karga procession starts from the Dharmaraja temple at Nagarthpet at about 2 a.m and returns to the temple at about 6 a.m after covering a distance of about 20 to 25 kms.

Someshwara Car Festival at Ulsoor:
Falls in March/April every year - celebrated on a grand scale.

Ganesha Festival:
Comes off usually in August or September every year, celebrated with cultural programmes in different parts of the city.

Bangalore Races:
Bangalore racing has two sessions, i.e., summer season, commencing from middle of May and ending in July, the winter season, commencing from November of each year and ending in March next. In addition, off course betting is conducted on the races actually run in other places.

Sri Subramanya Silver Car Festival at Visweswarapuram:
Comes off in November/December every year.

St. Mary's Feast:
The Parish Feast is celebrated on 8th September every year at St. Mary's Basilica, near the Russel Market, Shivajinagar.

Christmas:
Bangalore presents a festive look during this season.

Sankranti, Dasara and Deepavali Festivals:
Sankranti (January), Dasara (a nine day festival in September - October), Deepavali (a festival of lights in October - November) are important festivals celebrated with great eclat.

Independence Day and Republic Day:
15th August (Independence Day) and 26th January (Republic Day) are national festivals.

Kannada Rajyotsava:
Kannada Rajyotsava, falling on 1st November every year, is celebrated with great jubiliation. Lectures, seminars, dramas and various cultural programmes are held in different parts of the city.

Bakrid and Ramzan:
Celebrated by Muslims with prayers and greetings.

Gandhi Jayanthi:
Celebrated throughout the country on October 2, every year.
